COLUMBIA, 3/5/11 (Beat Byte)
-- Twenty-year education veteran Kris Matthews, Ph.D. will take the
helm at Grant Elementary (hallway pictured) during the 2011-12 school year, replacing retiring
principal Beverly Borduin.
An elementary teacher for 13 years, Matthews went
back to school at Mizzou to pursue her education doctorate, and has been
assistant principal at both Alpha Hart Lewis elementary and Gentry middle
schools.
Husband Chris retired from the Air National Guard,
where he served as a flight engineer on C-130 transport planes. He now
works for the MU Extension office's Healthy Lifestyle Initiative. Children
Brooke and Zach attend Jefferson Junior High School.
"I am thrilled and honored that I will be
serving as the principal for Grant
Elementary," Matthews told Grant families
in the school's newsletter. "I know that Mrs. Borduin will be missed, and I am
committed to making this a smooth transition for all."
