COLUMBIA, 3/24/10 (Beat Byte) -- Talk
about being in bed (or PO Box) together!
"Everyman" Fourth Ward Columbia City Council candidate Daryl Dudley's (left) campaign PO Box is the very same PO Box mega developers Tom and Scott Atkins (below) use for their business -- and on their annual Mo Secretary of State filings as members of the board of directors for the Central Missouri Development Council.
Here's the scoop:

If Mr. Dudley's campaign is being run by the staff of the Atkins conglomerate and founding, board members of the Central Missouri Development Council, won't Dudley have a conflict of interest in voting on any project to come before Council that is submitted by one of the many, many Atkins development interests, any project an Atkins company might be a subcontractor or partner on, and any project that might be brought forth by a Central Missouri Development Council member?
ReplyDeleteHow could he possibly serve on council?
I can't vote for anyone or any organization that slaps up a humongous, unsightly sign.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't sway me.
Doesn't inspire confidence in me that the candidate or the issue is in the best interest of Columbia.
Mike, I'm having trouble seeing the PDF you linked above. Anyone else having trouble, follow the other link (https://www.sos.mo.gov/BusinessEntity/soskb/Corp.asp?1234037), then click on the "Filed Documents" link, then click the last PDF icon on that page -- 8/28/2009 annual report.
ReplyDeleteRandy Coil, another member of the CMDC Board, is also on the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and was part of the Chamber's Endorsement Task Force that endorsed Mr. Dudley.
ReplyDeleteLarry Moore, who sent a letter with Tom Atkins encouraging contributions to Dudley's campaign (& those of the other CCC endorsees'), is also a Chamber board member and a developer.
Also note that another director of the CMDC, David Atkins, is part owner of the Richland Rd. property that was recently denied annexation & city zoning.
I don't know whether David & Scott Atkins are related, but even if they are not, there's still plenty of neoptism and cronyism to go around here.
and Larry Moore works for Billy Sapp, CMDC president, right?
ReplyDeleteand Pat Wilson, Dudley's campaign treasurer, is the Office Manager for Tom/Scott Atkins, right?
GAWD! There are more layers to this than a rotten onion!
ReplyDeleteAnd haven't the Atkins donated more than anybody else to the 'Keep Columbia Safe' campaign, giving more than $2000?
ReplyDeleteIf you look around town, the McDavid, Kespohl or Dudley, and KCS signs are all clustered together.
Seems like the CMDC/Chamber are running a slate...
Mike, I don't understand why this has caused such a dustup in the Tribune. There is no scandal. This guy is being supported by people in Columbia who also build stuff and own businesses. Don't let the chicken littles get you down. When they start paying you for your work, then you might have to worry.
