AILING CRIME CANINE: City to repair McGruff, the robot Crime Dog

COLUMBIA, 2/20/11  (Beat Byte) --  It's hard to take a bite out of crime when you're under the weather, so Columbia City Hall wants to repair the police department's ailing canine sleuth, McGruff the Robot Dog.

With funds from the Share the Light program, which local residents fund to support various city causes, the Columbia City Council Monday night will vote to appropriate $500 to get McGruff back on his paws, a trip to the mechanical veterinarian that will likely take the dog detective out of state.

"The McGruff Robot is used the community to teach children about safety and crime prevention issues," a staff report reads.  "The Robot is in need of repair and the cost includes freight and shipping charges."
